The Reality of Health and Weight Loss - I’m inspired and motivated to get to a better me. I’ve tried to get fit/lose weight several times, but to no avail. But now it’s on! My questions is: What kind of exercises (cardio, weight training, yoga, etc.) should I incorporate into a workout to get the results I want? My goal is to lose fat, build/tone muscles, develop endurance and just get healthier. I have Zumba, TurboFire and a TotalGym (I don’t use all three). I only Zumba right now, and occasionally walk and bike. Any advice? Thanks!

Heck yes! *high five* Your attitude rocks.

So strength training is almost more important than cardio when you’re trying to change your body composition. When people want to “tone up” get “leaner”, etc.— these are all dependent on strength training. It’s also the most commonly overlooked type of exercise. Free weights are the best in my opinion (because they’re easy to use!) and you can find a lot of great workouts online.

Certain types of yoga count as strength training (like pilates) as long as you choose the tough sequences of poses. If you’re sore the day after, you’re doing it right!

If you incorporate at least 2 days of strength training per week, you should be on the right track.

Good luck!
