The Reality of Health and Weight Loss - what do you think of the paleo diet?

what do you think of the paleo diet?

I know someone who swears by the Paleo Diet, which, for the unitiated, is basically a diet that encourages people to eat like a caveman. No packaged foods!

Here’s what I like about it:

  • It excludes dairy. Because I’m an on-and-off vegan with a soymilk obsession, I recognize the fact that dairy is not the healthiest part of my diet. In fact, when I went entirely vegan for two weeks, I lost four pounds and had like nine times more energy. It was weird. But dairy’s difficult to give up, so I applaud everyone who can handle diets like these.

Here’s what I don’t like:

  • It excludes bread.Sure, white flour is my own personal vice that haunts me in my nightmares with its softy, fluffy layers of deliciousness— but I’m all ready doing my best to limit that. The Paleo Diet also excludes whole wheat flour. I know there are some new finagled studies out there reexamining the nutritional value of wheat as a food group, but I think foods like oatmeal and veggie sandwiches should stay staples in our diets.

In a nutshell

I love the Paleo diet’s mantra of not consuming toxins and eating real food. But I need to do more diet on this whole “war on bread” thing before I jump on the proverbial health bandwagon. You can’t trust bandwagons, y’know? They’re not very fuel efficient, yet everybody wants one.

In the end, you have to figure out where you stand by investigating different sources for yourself :) What works for you might not work for somebody else!
