Q&A: The Truth About Peanut Butter, Free Yoga Routines, Jokes About Sodium

It’s Q&A Sunday!

It depends, are you talking about super-mildly-chunky-jiffy-full-of-sugar-and-high-fructose-corn-syrup peanut butter? Or Organic Peanut Butter?

If you pick the right kind, peanut butter IS healthy: full of good fats, protein, and fiber. There are a bunch of other benefits, too. Just make sure you pick the organic kind without the high fructose corn syrup!

Thanks for bringing this point up!

Here’s the thing about the BMI: it shouldn’t be used alone. When trying to get a good picture of your overall health, you should take a look at your body fat percentage, your weight, your height, your basal metabolic rate, your resting heart rate, and your BMI in conjunction with each other.

Many health professionals still use the BMI despite the fact that it doesn’t present the entire picture of an individual’s health, and despite its limitations I think you should be aware of what your BMI is.

Same goes for the scale: let’s say two people who are 5’10” weigh 150. One person could have a higher body fat percentage and not be healthy at all. and the other could be all muscle. Don’t just use the scale alone!

Use many different measurements to get an accurate overall picture of your health and progress!

This is a great question!

When in doubt, go for nuts. Some of the healthiest are almonds, pecans, and walnuts. Not only are they filling, but they’re higher in the calorie range and they’re a great source of good fats (which are essential for your diet!) Not to mention almonds are shown to help you lose weight.

Yoga is your answer! Check out Tara Stiles on Youtube — she is the coolest yoga instructor ever and has tons of free yoga videos, and there are plenty of great ones if you’re new at yoga like I was.

If you’re just looking for exercise to do for the sake of staying active, pick activities that you love. Have you tried rock climbing or roller skating or swimming? All fantastic exercises you can do with friends.

I love longboarding (basically skateboarding for those of us who can’t skateboard to save our lives) because I’m so terrible that it ends up being a workout. (And it’s fun when I’m not tripping over my face.)

The key with exercise is to find stuff you love to do. There’s something inherently cool about kickboxing to me: it’s like I’m James Bond or something. It’s an activity that I do when I’m tired of interval running and bored of yoga.

Keep seeking out new workouts!
